About Me

Hello,
I'm Sally, wife to one (reasonably!) understanding husband, Harry, and Mum to 4 lovely children - Sam, Theo, Venetia and Maria. I love to make things and this blog is, I hope, very much a 'making' blog, with a smattering of family and thrifting thrown in sometimes.

More often than not my passion for creating involves sewing, and my favourite thing to create would have to be a patchwork quilt.

But as well as sewing I love working with wood, buttons, beads, jewellery making, cooking, decoupage... , anything really where the end result is something that I've made. Ideally something beautiful or delicious or, at the very least practical, something that gives me a sense of satisfaction.

I'm a full time Mum at the moment and, as much as I love this, I'm sure anyone who has young children will know that there are times when parenting is stressful and that it's very easy to lose your sense of yourself. Time spent creating things is my therapy time, it's time for "me" and if I don't get it I become very ratty!

I am also just slightly addicted to rummaging around charity shops and, partly as a result of this, I have an embarrassingly large stash of fabric and other crafty supplies.

If I'm not making, I enjoy spending time with my family, especially outdoors in the beautiful Devon countryside where we're lucky enough to live. In the Summer we love to swim in the gorgeous rivers and at the beaches around us. I find 'Wild Swimmimg' is another brilliant form of therapy for me, particularly in the Summer holidays when making time is limited!

I don't like dusting, cleaning or housework of any kind in fact, and my house is generally pretty untidy! Nor do I like sitting in front of the television - unless I've got some sewing to do on my knee and I'm really just 'listening' to the television. I find these two 'dislikes' help to free up my time to focus on what is important to me!
So, I hope you enjoy browsing through my makes and seeing how I create them. I love to hear from you so please feel free to leave comments or get in touch. Thank you!
Sally.

  3. Hi Sally! My name is Mollyhall, and I am the editor of FaveQuilts.com. I absolutely LOVE your quilt gallery; you have a real eye for interesting design! Are these designs of your own, or patterns you're following?

If it's the former, would you have any interest in posting a step-by-step tutorial that I could feature on FaveQuilts? I know our readers would love to learn how to make any one of your beautiful quilts!

I was surfing a bit to help my elder daughter find out what patchwork is and randomly landed here...but the strangest thing...I'm getting a 'wow, isn't the world small?' feeling...because I think I knew you a long time ago! 1988-91, Doncaster,Warwick, Oxford, seven clubs, your mum's chocolate cake...?
