I've had this skirt planned in my head for ages, and it was so quick and easy to make that really there was no reason for it to take so long to get around to it. It's another way to make use of lovely old embroidered linens. This one started life as a gorgeous tablecloth.
I cut the bottom off a thrifted jersey type long sleeved t-shirt to create the top of it.
With just simple 'A' line pieces of the linen. I had to make it a little longer than I would have liked to get the embroidery in a reasonable area and be able to make use of the edging of the table cloth for the bottom of the skirt.
Because the jersey fabric was already neatly finished at the bottom I just kept that on the top and sewed 2 more seams to secure it.
Created a waistband for some elastic...
Then just sewed the sides together, and there it was done.
The embroidery is beautiful, and I love the colour combinations.
It was very easy to match the pattern on the side seams...
And no hemming was required because of the pretty edging already there.
It's a little different to the majority of Venetia's wardrobe, but she seems to like it.
She doesn't have many tops that work with it though.
So I seem to have created a need to sew something else for her!
I'm linking up with the lovely Stitchery Party at Super Mom - No Cape again today.

Gorgeous - what a great use for linens!
ReplyDeleteI want one of those too!! I love it Sally. You continue to amaze me my friend. I have stopped thrifting in the last little while, but you make me want to get back out there.
ReplyDeleteIt looks wonderful on her. :)
ReplyDeleteOh isn't it pretty, what a gorgeous way to show off a tablecloth! And if I send good charity shop hunting vibes, wouldn't it look pretty with a broderie anglaise top, or something delicate and lacy!
ReplyDeleteso very sweet x
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I love the colours and embroidery. So ingenious to use the ready made seams and edging X
ReplyDeleteSo pretty! I would have never thought of using a shirt to make the waistband. You are so clever! And this new skirt looks fabulous on your daughter... She seems quite happy!

ReplyDeleteThanks so much for linking up to last week's Stitchery Link Party and for linking back. It's inspiring to see how an item can be given a new life.
Oh my, so lovely and lady-like... I need to thrift shop where you do cause I cannot find anything that nice anywhere here! :-)
