Flower Hexie Mini Quilt

So here's how we left this mini quilt back here...

I finished the quilting and then had to decide on a quote. I was thinking about something to do with flowers or Spring perhaps. But I couldn't find anything that felt quite right. Then I remembered a quote I like which is about seeds - and decided that could be close enough. Here it is:

'I have great faith in a seed. Convince me that you have a seed there, and I am prepared to expect wonders'
Henry David Thoreau

The only problem was that, even if I'd felt inclined to embroider the whole of that quote (not likely!), there just wasn't room - I planned to have the quote on only one of the hexagons. A shortened version - perhaps 'Faith in a seed' - really wasn't working for me, so I decided I'd better allow myself some poetic licence. And I came up with 'Show me the seed' instead. Hopefully Mr Thoreau wouldn't disapprove too much!

Unfortunately, I got a bit too carried away with my poetic licence and was almost right to the end of 'money', instead of 'seed', before I realised my mistake!

Out came the quick unpicker, but I got there in the end. Here it is:

Right second time!
I really liked how the quilting worked:

And I just blanket stitched neatly around the edge on the backing side to completely secure the layers.

I think it might be hard to get much more of a contrast than that from yesterday's mini quilt to today's.

That's one of the things I'm starting to most like about making mini quilts.

Back again tomorrow,

Sally.
